Seven things that slow down a GTA move (and how to avoid them)
Almost every hour lost on a GTA move day comes from one of the same seven causes.
1. No truck parking plan
In much of Toronto, where the truck stands is a decision that has to be made in advance — standing restrictions, permits and width limits are real. An unplanned curb turns into a long carry.
2. An elevator window that was never booked
If the window is not booked, the move does not happen on schedule. Book both ends as soon as you have dates.
3. A truck that will not fit the loading bay
Underground bays have height limits. The truck has to be chosen against the tighter of the two ends.
4. Packing that is not finished
Closets, kitchen cupboards and the basement corner are the usual culprits. A crew that has to wait or pack loses hours you are paying for.
5. Starting late
GTA traffic is a scheduling input, not bad luck. An 8 AM start and a 1 PM start are not the same move.
6. Furniture that was never measured
Sectionals, wall units and appliances need to be measured against doorways and elevator cars before move day, not during it.
7. No placement decisions
If nobody says where a piece goes, it gets set down twice. Decide the room assignments before the truck arrives and the unload runs at full speed.
