Commercial vs residential moving: what actually differs
A house move is measured in hours. A commercial move is measured in downtime. That changes everything about the plan.
Different success metric
In a residential move, success is a home you can live in that evening. In a commercial move, success is a workplace that functions on the next business day. The second requires planning that starts from the reopening hour and works backwards.
Numbering instead of labelling
Homes are labelled by room. Offices are numbered by asset against a destination floor plan, so a desk, its chair, its monitor and its storage all land at the same numbered position without anyone making decisions during the move.
Access and timing
Commercial buildings run on dock bookings, freight elevators, security sign-in and after-hours access. Residential moves rarely involve all four. That is why office moves are usually scheduled in the evening or over a weekend.
IT and records
Technology is disconnected, bagged per station and reconnected to a defined point. Files and archives move in sequence so records stay findable — an office where nobody can locate last quarter's contracts is still down, even if every desk is in place.
